French national team coach Didier Deschamps spoke to the press following the 1-0 victory over Austria in the first round of the Euro 2024 group stage.

Deschamps stated, "It's never easy to achieve a win against a team with athletic qualities and high pressure. We could have handled certain situations better in the first or second ball."

He added, "Overall, we performed well. We had quality and talent, and there was good solidarity among the players. We need to continue this, and I'm satisfied with this opening win."

Regarding team selection, Deschamps explained, "I chose to play Saliba because I decided he was better suited for this type of match than Ibrahima Konaté. However, I don't want to lose any player along the way."

On Mbappé's injury, Deschamps commented, "His nose is in bad shape. I can't say much more, but it's not good. It's complicated. This is the downside of the evening."
